Jargon in Science
The New York Times and Science Mag have both published very interesting articles about jargon in science. In the article, they cite some very accomplished scientists like Hazel Barton and Alexander Klimchouk. This is article has interesting implications in the field of cave science. I have always landed on the “middle ground” of use of jargon, in that a researcher should be able to explain their topic in such a way that it is easily understood by someone without an advanced understanding of science, however, jargon can aid in proper communication of complex ideas and efficient communication with colleagues. Whatever your opinion, this article is worth a read.
